Summer Time & The Livings Easy... Part 1

Summer time for me is normally no different than the rest of the year... ok maybe a little more sun and margaritas than normal but that's about it. However this summer was different and will always have a little special place in my heart! Summer of 2017 started with me getting engaged!!! eeeeek! It was about 2 weeks into Cam's summer vacation (#teacherlife) and just 1 day after his birthday, while we were walking the Atlanta Beltline looking at colorful wall murals, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with tears in both of our eyes.

Not only did he pop the question, but he planned an engagementmoon trip to Asheville, NC which is one of my absolute favorite cities EVER! Since this wasn't our first trip to Asheville we decided to try to "live like a local" for the week, and it was just what we needed: No plans, no stress, just fun :)

Our first stop for the trip was Biltmore Village were we drank a pitcher of strawberry margaritas, yummy guacamole, and these amazing stuffed avocados from The Cantina at Historic Biltmore Village and then strolled from shop to shop. We drove over to the art district to check out one of our favorite breweries, Wedge Brewing Co., where we got to sit outside and just enjoy the amazing weather and cold brews. The best part about walking around was being surrounded by beautiful blooms all over, like these colorful hydrangeas.

After freshening up at the hotel we went straight to Skybar for the best sunset view in downtown Asheville and the best handcrafted cocktails too!

The following morning we woke up early to hike a to Catawba Falls , were we passed artists working on a project in their yard along with their other fun artwork on display for all going to the falls to see. The hike to Catawba Falls was a little further than I anticipated but it was gorgeous and so peaceful in the early morning and boy did that waterfall make it ALL worth it! Of course I had to get a few ring shots in, it being our engagementmoon and all it was a requirement (duh)   ;)

After that amazing hike we chowed down on some good ol' southern BBQ and drank some yummy local brews! The next morning we woke up early and drove out to Chimney Rock State Park to climb to the top of the rock and right after hike to the waterfall what was one of the easier family friendly hikes, although you can't get in the water it has a great observation deck to relax before making your way to the car.

If you haven't noticed a trend, we tend to get all our physical activities out in the morning so we can enjoy all the amazing food and craft beer Asheville has to offer and let me tell you... if you want local beer with an AMAZING view than look no further than Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery that is great little brewery that sits right on the water with a double level deck to leads right to the river water! I could honestly stay there all day just sipping local beer, enjoying some pretzels & beer cheese, and just listening to the birds sing along the riverside {hello paradise}

but the best beer...

hands down my favorite craft beer is The Red Devil from Pisgah Brewing Company  and their outside area is pretty great with a food truck always around.

Well that sums up or last trip to Asheville with some great new spots you will have to add to your "must try" list if you are planning a trip to that fun little city!

Our summer trip to Nashville, TN (summer - part 2) will be next up on the blog, so stay tuned!
